Summary of Benefits
Maximum Sum Insured options
$25,000, $50,000, $100,000, $150,000 (for Super Visa applicants: $100,000 or $150,000). Deductible options: $0, $100, $500, $1,000. Policy maximum: 365 days per policy (can be renewed).
Emergency Hospital
Hospital accommodations up to semi-private rooms and hospital services and supplies necessary for the care of a medical emergency during hospitalization.
Emergency Medical
Medical treatment by a physician or surgeon. Out-patient emergency room charges.
Drugs or Medications
Prescription medication obtained on the prescription of the attending physician and supplied by a licensed pharmacist, to a maximum 30-day prescription. Refills and associated physician’s expenses are excluded.
Professional Service
Emergency services of an osteopath, physiotherapist, chiropractor, chiropodist, optometrist, and/or podiatrist. Up to an aggregate maximum of $500 per person.
Emergency Air Transportation / Return Home
Licensed road or air ambulance in a medical emergency that requires immediate transportation to the nearest hospital where adequate facilities are available. Air ambulance or scheduled airline only when the transport is to a hospital for further in-hospital medical treatment not available at the attended facility, with written recommendation and prior GMS approval.
Transportation of Family
Payment for a one-way, economy class airfare by the most direct route to return an accompanying child/children (up to the age of 18 years) to the original point of departure. The cost of an escort, when necessary, will be covered. Special attendant benefit: round-trip airfare for a medical attendant, if medically necessary and pre-approved, to accompany you back to your destination in Canada or your country of origin. (Pre-approval required.)
Follow-up Visits
When deemed medically necessary, follow-up visits are covered until such time that the medical emergency has been deemed to have ended as advised by GMS. GMS requires it to occur no later than 14 days after the initial medical emergency, unless otherwise instructed and approved by GMS.
Accidental Dental
Expenses for the repair or replacement of natural teeth or permanently attached artificial teeth necessitated by an accidental blow to the mouth, to a maximum of $2,000 per person.
Dental Emergencies
Medical treatment for the relief of dental pain, to a maximum of $300.
Meals and Accommodation
Payment for reasonable and customary expenses, up to $150 per day to a maximum of $1,000, for accommodations, meals, necessary telephone calls and taxi or bus fares incurred by an accompanying family member if you are in hospital on your return date.
Emergency Return Home
Repatriation to Country of Origin by Commercial Airline without a Medical Attendant: if deemed medically fit to travel, payment to a maximum of $5,000 to transport you by common carrier without the need of a medical escort back to your country of origin for further medical treatment. Includes one accompanying family member. With a Medical Attendant: if medically necessary, includes economy airfare for one family member, cost of a medical escort, additional airfare for stretcher, or air ambulance if deemed medically necessary (pre-approved by GMS).
Return of Deceased
When death results from a covered medical emergency, expenses for either the preparation or transportation of the deceased to his/her destination in Canada or country of origin, to a maximum of $10,000 per person, or the expense of cremation or burial at the place of death, to a maximum of $4,000. (No coverage for headstone, casket, urn, or funeral services.)

Side-trip outside Canada
Coverage for side trips up to 30 days or less in duration, outside of Canada, provided trips originate and terminate in Canada and are not greater than 50% of the period of coverage. No coverage in country of origin.
Coverage for pre-existing medical conditions
GMS does not cover expenses resulting directly or indirectly from medical conditions which have not been stable for 180 days immediately prior to your effective date, including: medical condition(s) for which you received medical treatment or consultation; and/or undiagnosed medical condition(s) related to symptoms for which you received medical treatment or consultation. Must be stable based on the policy definition, regardless of physician’s opinion.
Waiting period for sickness
If you apply before arriving in Canada, or purchase to continue coverage without a gap from another Canadian insurance company, coverage begins on the effective date with no wait period. If uninsured and you apply within the first 30 days of arriving in Canada, coverage for injury begins on the effective date and a 2-day waiting period is applied to coverage for medical conditions (other than injury). If uninsured and you apply more than 30 days after arriving in Canada, coverage for injury begins on the effective date and a 7-day waiting period is applied to coverage for medical conditions (other than injury).
